FedEx is a globally known logistics company. Serving businesses and individuals, FedEx offers a wide range of services. FedEx is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee but has numerous branches across the globe including the United Kingdom. Its United Kingdom customer service line can be reached at 03456 07 08 09.
Founded in 1971, FedEx was born from a “term paper” of a Yale undergraduate student. Frederick W. Smith was this particular Yale student. His term paper consisted of an outline of a system that delivered “time-sensitive shipments”. FedEx (Federal Express Corp.) was first launched in Little Rock, Arkansas. Two years later, Mr. Frederick Smith decided to relocate his company’s operations to its current headquarters located in Memphis, Tennessee.
During the relocation, FedEx employed 389 employees and used 14 “Dassault Falcon jets” to deliver “186 packages overnight” to 25 cities across the United States. From this, the modern logistics industry was created.
Because of its success, FedEx quickly grew and acquired additional transportation for its ever-growing shipments from clients. In 1977, the company purchased 7 “Boeing 727 aircrafts” that carried seven times the cargo capacity of the Dassault Falcon jets.
Throughout the years, FedEx has expanded its operations to cater to their clients, globally. In 1984 and 1985, FedEx expanded to Asia Pacific, UK, Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, and Belgium. Later, operations began in France and Switzerland. During this time, FedEx opened its “European Headquarters in Brussels”. Furthering their expansion, FedEx began operations in Finland, Sweden, and Denmark from 2001 to 2002. In 2004, they have expanded operations to Norway. Its most recent operation expansion occurred in 2016, where the company opened a new facility in Chorzów, Poland.
Employing a vast amount of employees worldwide, FedEx wanted to help support both the local and global communities. They wanted to support communities across America and globally through their philanthropic efforts. One such initiative is through FedEx Cares. FedEx Cares gives back through monetary donations as well as volunteerism. It focuses on initiatives concerning “global entrepreneurship, road safety, sustainable transportation, delivering for good, and employment pathways”. They also support programs that cater to diversity and inclusion.
In 2016, FedEx Cares reported donating $46 Million U.S. Dollars to various charities benefiting communities across the globe. In line with supporting initiatives towards diversity, we take a look at a recent publication dated February 2nd of 2019. FedEx Cares offered and sponsored free admission at The National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta, Georgia during Super Bowl weekend. Prior to this event, FedEx Cares also sponsored free admission on January 21st of 2019 at the same museum. Furthering its philanthropic efforts, FedEx Cares (in partnership with Rise Against Hunger) “packed 140,000 meals for the world’s hungry” with a team of “500 FedEx members” during “Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service” (January 21st of 2019). FedEx Cares works with many non-profit organizations and charities such as International Medical Corps, Water Mission, Heart to Heart International, and Safe Kids to just mention a few.
